User's Guide - Settings

There are many settings that you can set from the 'More' window in the Arcanity client. They are stored in settings.txt in your Arcanity directory, but it recommended that you not modify that file directly (except for gamma).

General:

  • Perspective: Change the camera position between 1st and 3rd person.
  • No Strafe: Means that the left and right arrow keys will rotate your left and right instead of moving you left and right.
  • Transparency: Sets the transparency of the GUI windows.

Graphics:

  • Resolution: Size of the window Arcanity will display in.
  • Fullscreen: Means Arcanity takes over the desktop instead of running in a regular window.
  • Land Mesh Detail: A little confusing. A lower number means that you will see more details in terrain elevation, which uses more polygons.
  • Land Texture Size: Controls the detail of the color texture on the terrain. Set to 32 for older computers and 128 for modern computers. 256 is not recommended.
  • Low Detail Texture: Reduces texture detail on most objects. Recommended for old video cards with small amounts of video RAM. This option requires a restart.
  • Horizon: Controls how far out you can see. Use 1 for old computers. Raising the number will let you see much further, but also will slow down loading and reduce your framerate.
  • Animated Clouds: Means that the shapes of the clouds will change over time.
  • Object Detail: Controls how detailed the objects are at medium distances. Setting this to low on older video cards will help your framrate.
  • Max Lights: Sets the maximum number of dynamic lights (like torches) that you will see. If you have a very old video card, set this to 0 and see if it helps your framerate.
  • Gamma (only in settings.txt): Controls how bright the colors are on the screen. Try raising it to 60 or 65 if you are having trouble seeing at night or when there is glare on your screen.

Sound:

  • Sound Volume: Controls the volume of all sound effects besides game music.
  • Music Volume: Controls the volume of game music.
