So whattaya think fellas, go for simplicity with a "Goldsilvercopperetc." money system, or for realism with different monies that have different (and fluctuating) values, and the need for shops that exchange money and etc.. And perhaps a banking system, where you can deposit money and collect interest on it, maybe some form of investment programs in the more developed cities...

We haven't decided on a unit yet for money. We probably won't do "cp sp gp pp" because it's PLAYED OUT and because only pp means anything. We're not really sure yet. I don't think we'll get into geographically different currencies with exchange rates for all of them, etc. If you want to go pure realism, I'd wager that trade and barter ruled in feudal times. In certain cases, gold or other scarce resources would be accepted as payment (salt in roman times), but I think it was mostly "I'll give you these here 2 goats for them 2 barrels of apples". But having trade only is no fun (at least for me, I hated it in EQ where all the good items were trade only).
Regardless of what unit of currency we choose, you WILL be able to invest your money in some way or another. Of course, there is no FDIC in the days of Arcanity, so investments will be much riskier than in real life.

Nezarr, if it is possible to rob banks, it won't be easy. It won't be like, "We're bored, and there's no open spawns to camp, so lets go kill the banker and take everyone's plat". It would be more like real life, where a very small percentage of bank robbers are successful. And even when they do succeed, they don't get ALL the money in the bank.

sounds good to me, but if an army over runs a town i would expect that the bank would suffer some ya know...

I would prefer one universal currency. Different ones are most likely just going to confuse players. And when someone robs a bank, don't cripple the people who are getting robbed too much. You might start to see players quitting if they lose all their bank money in one fell swoop.

I'm with you, Dukey. Don't worry, banks will be pretty damned safe.
