Personally, I agree that what made OG EQ great was the interaction with other players. Yeah, it was frustrating sometimes, but it had ups and downs just like real life. And I think that's a major reason why I didn't leave the house, and barely ate or showered, for a year or so playing EQ.

I agree to that. I play MMOs for the interaction, I want to be in one big world full of people, socializing, competing and fighting.
All the not-really-mmo content and instancing in the newer MMOs is certainly not my taste.
These games just don't feel truly immersive anymore.
I want to immerse into a big, "real" online-world. Want to feel like being part of it, in good and bad times (situations).

What about the design of EQ gave u that feeling? What specifics do good MMORPGs have that make them more immersive then others?

In EQ i thought the number of races, factions, storys, quests, towns was what made it such a great fondation for a strong online community.

What do you think?
