Oh hell yeah we need a java chat so we all can exchange ideas in real time and debate on how it is all done. Like we could make a beta testers only java chat room for people who where interested befor the game was relesed becuse you know we are peobably going to be the big wigs in the game in half a year.

Hmm... I haven't seen anyone on chat yet. I usually log into chat when I first get on and keep it in the top left corner while I look over the new posts here, so if anyone sees me on and wants to talk just pop in and say hi, I may be into a post but I'll look up after a while.

Sounds good, I'd also like to find someone home...though I think its my fault as other people have chatted....

I've only found the chat occupied once. If it becomes permanent perhaps a window could be installed to show who is in the chat. It could be toggled off if desired.

Thats a good idea...I have seen it before on other sites...

Yes, I think one of the problems with the chat is that it does not show whose in the chat room once you have been logged on for awhile and doesnt show if anyone else is logged in when you log in. I have found a few peeps home, I always log in and check when I hit the site and leave the window minied for awhile and keep checking.

For those who don't know, how do you get into chat?

Kymeri mac An Iolar

Yeah I can put a link from the message boards, but I want to find a better chat program, any recommendations?

Unfortunatily no, I have never even been in a chatroom before this one. Maybe Slitherr knows a better one, he says re runs a chat sometimes with his irc server. I agree we need a better chat.

Well, the IRC chat isn't web-based, requires downloading an IRC client and connecting to one of the servers, mIRC being one of the more popular Windows clients (www.mirc.com). When it comes to java-based chatrooms, I'm clueless, I suppose you could always try http://www.softseek.com, because they seem to have almost everything you could ever want or need, for Linux or Windows.

Hey, whattaya know, Softseek did have something, freeware chat client with a WHO command, usable both with *nix and Windows. I haven't been able to get it to work on the test page yet, think their server may be having trouble, but it's a start...

Is there a way to put something on the Message Boards to indicate when someone is in the chat?

Lordosis

Click on the live chat link at the bottom of the page. We have a nice little IRC java applet, but I can't get it to work. I don't know anything about IRC, but if 2 people log into 2 different servers, they can't talk to each other. Is that right? If anyone who know about IRC has any ideas, let me know.

Seems to work here, although I am only one on.....:)

BelDragos
12-11-2000, 07:53 PM
OK, what's wrong with our links that they refuse to let us into the chat without going to the home page?

Generic

What version of windows are you on? What version of browswer?

You need to download an IRC applet which you may not be being prompted for..or if you do have it there are other platform or browser related issues which could be responsible. Let me know the info and I will find the answer...

cool yure jets all and just relax for a shagg..... heres a nice little joke I got recently from a email servicer...

Bill At The Ballgame

It was the first game of the season. President Clinton and
the First Lady were invited to opening day at Yankee
Stadium. Right before the game started, the President
picked up Hillary and threw her onto the field. George
Steinbrenner turned around and shouted, "No, Mr. President,
I said throw the first PITCH!"

BTW...I am liking the IRC idea, buyt we need to decide on a definitive server and secondaries.... I like IRC.....
