bored out of my mind becuase i can't get my fix of arcanity sooo i'll start this thread:
what is your guy's favorite mmorpg's. what are things that you like about certain ones but you dont necessarily like in gereral

heres mine:
ultima online was probably my favorite. that drained a year of my life and i dont feel bad about it! i liked it because i thought the pvp was good (played before trammel sprang up btw) (and shortly after i quit) =(
but you could just chill out and mine and such. there were drawbacks to ganking innocent fishermen though too. i think it was really balanced. i liked the concept of no level's, only skill. overall i really enjoyed the game
until the 12 year olds on their yellow beetles came with their +600 luck amulets chanting HARRASSMENT HARRASMENT.
i liked how pvp could last as long as it had to. it ended in defeat if you were either outskilled or owned. sometimes though it would just go on and on and basically end in a draw.
oh and i really liked the treasure map thing it had. i thought that was really adventurous

shadowbane was a neat concept only it wasnt really practical. i.e. IMPOSSIBLE to level after lvl 20 unless you could find a group of people and was based entirely on pvp. not that thats bad but i think there should be more in a mmorpg than just pvp.

star wars galaxies was ghey.

runescape was ok but it was kinda layme. you had to be a member to be able to really do anything and i thought it was just overall semi-bland but i still enjoyed it for a while.

never played EQ but i heard both good and bad things. gimp on the pvp so why bother?

one thing i would like to see is a mmorpg with just ONE server. i know that would be difficult but it would be so much better to have one world masterfully crafted then a bunch of random USA SERVER C13 or SERVER RU 485

i think Wish is doing something like that but im not sure..

ok hopefully this thread isnt layme and you guys will post what you think

Meridian 59 was my first game, I was actually in the beta back in 1995-6. It was amazing running around a 3d world with that many people. I also enjoyed the PvP (watch out for the red names!) and the player interaction (had to get other player to mend your armour, etc).

EQ was awesome. I think I have close to a year played time, which is scary. I haven't been able to get into any game since EQ.

DAoC didn't do it for me, I think because of the clunky UI and the terrible response time due to everything being done server side.

WoW and EQ2 seem like good games for the masses, but they are too dumbed down / care bear for my tastes. I can't stand instances and artificial restrictions, and both games seen to be big on those.

UO I never played, but it sounds really awesome as I hear more about it.

Eve Online is an amazing game, by the way. Almost all items in the game are player made. Really neat economy. And PvP is done really well.

Regarding a one server setup, Eve managed to do it and they have about 50,000 players. Wish was going to have large servers, but more than just one. And it's m00t because Wish was cancelled a week into beta.

EQ was my first mmorpg too. I also played at least a year before the magic faded. When they started catering to the newer players more it went downhill, imo. Tried DAoC after that, but it seemed "gritty" and sort of rough compared to EQ. Plus with so many players using bots it was a huge disadvantage. AO was next and it was good but just didn't give me the feeling like EQ gave me, but AO has the best support i've ever come across for a commercial game. Played runescape for quite awhile but the community really went downhill. The game got to be too much of a grind as well with little new content for the higher level players.

well lets see...

I started with EQ which is still one of the best games except for the pvp... It had the best general "feeling" however it started to suck after PoP...

then I tryied a bunch of games AO really really really sucked it was so laggy and unfinished when they launched it was probably the worst launch ever so I stopped playing after a month..

Neocron was fun for a while it had a great concept but got boring with all of the german uber players who just cared about being the best...

Horizons was and is pobably the best online game i have played resently the crafting system is unmatched it just rules and the races and player cities was really good but the world felt kinda empty.. they just never got the same feeling as EQ

Eve.....lol.... no offence but if I wanted to stare at a screen for 5 hours without anything happening I prefer staring at my desktop...

EQ2 was... Idont know but it just never caught me like EQ did... not to mention the crafting... that sucked...but they had really good stuff in that game and it looked good but missed alot in the feeling...they never had that magic touch..

I currently play Mxo which rocks!! what it lack in content it makes up for in "feeling"... and the content will get better over time so I think this one is a keeper... although I sometimes miss the fantasy setting...

I hope to play Vanguard in the future... my new demand on a fantasy game is that If I cant sitt in a bar and get drunk Im not buying it...so If I can that ill play it..

I played more online games but either I dont remember or they are not worth mentioning Arcanity excluded =)
