View Full Version : Spells
Hey on the spells weaken takes quite a bit of points to get and only does -1 str, which i guess is fine for the first spell in voodoo but the second spell which takes 4 ritualism and 4 voodoo and costs 2gp is called LifeSap and it only takes 1 life, are these not complete yet?
I just wanna do some voodoo

Ask Rolfe if he minds un-nerfing Voodoo.
But he said your the master of spells so could i get your help on it? please please please. Come everything seems to ork with weaken and saplife but they don't have any numbers in them, they only do like 1. Weaken should be like a backwards StrPotion -4 str. and SapLife should do 3-4 damage, it doesn't hit alot and takes a long time to cast. Come on ya have a personal beta tester that loves this game to death. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease.

Just an opinion to help you adjust the Weaken spell. Weaken might best be implemented as an effect that is strong at first, but gradually weakens, so say it does -4 Strength (STR), a attack rounds later that would become -3 STR, then -2 STR, etc till the enemy is back to original STR. The spell should not be allowed to lower the STR of an enemy to -4 if that enemy has and -STR still in effect to balance out useage in group situations where someone might be using the spell constantly to get more EXP that the other ppl in the group (from what I have noticed, spells do seem to steal an unproportionately large amount of experience when in pairs)
I don't know about the whole spells stealing exp thing but a StrPotions works by giving you +4 str if you use it again is has no effect...I think... Anyways thats how i figured the spell should last though i think i like you idea more with the slowly going away but as its slowly going away i think they should be able to recast it back to the full -4.

your vodoo guy who was within 1.0 lvl of me was getting over triple the exp when i was obviously doing more damage and taking the hits. On the flip side I made a massive amount of exp with my healer character if I healed before the enemy was killed, and I assume that you weren't getting as much in those cases.
As for not being able to recast till the effect is entirely gone, I am coming from a FFXI point of view, where party balance logistics are the most important thing in the gameplay. Since this game assigns exp based on the actions by certain users (attacking, being attacked, etc...) a mage could easily rack up a lot of experience by using the spell over and over, and as long as it stuck every time, he would earn exp for it. This woulod give him a serious advantage in a group situation, where he would be inclined to find a higher lvl group after only a few battles. On the other hand, exp could be assigned proportionately based on how effective the spell was, so a change from 0 to -4 would give twice as much exp as a change from -2 to -4.
I didn't like the fact FFXI was based just on grouping becuase the difficulty of monster was based on it you were in a group or not which was may i add GAY! lol You couldn't play alone and were left waiting long amount of times for parties in the higher lvls if you were not perfectly what they wanted and needed. Which left no room for any customability what so ever. Everyone was the same... doing what the person before them did... only thing different was the armor but really wasn't that different at all. If you had alot of gold you had the best stufff for that class like everyone else.

Not advocating FFXI here, just drawing upon my experiences with it. I would never wish this game to become just like FFXI, that would be boring, no matter how much I like or dislike FFXI.

Just because of the limited time I have, I'll have to focus on melee combat and leave magic for later I think. Otherwise they're both gonna suck. haha. This way only one sucks. I'd really like to get some decent spells and stuff in, it's just a matter of time I guess. If you guys think I should focus on spells sooner, let me know.
