Hey, I just want to alert everyone to the December issue of PC Gamer. The overall issue concerns upcoming MMORPGs, but more importantly there's a small blurb on page 108 about Arcanity!

Congrats on getting the game in there guys!

Johnson, take note of this. Evidentally our suspect left in a hurry... Look, the uneaten sandwich, the glowing computer screen, the note with "Gone -- PCGamer" scribbled on it in crayon... One can only guess at his motive, Johnson. One can only guess.

I just read that too. Here's a small segment of the article:
" ...but Arcanity is taking the standard fantasy world and wrapping it around a karmic system that should prove a breath of fresh air to players who are interested in role-playing without the arbitary boundaries of rules-based social interatcion."

It also went on to describe the alignment status feature and the "reporting" of PK'ers.

Overall I thought the article was pretty good but a little short. The last sentence summed it up by saying "These original ideas may allow Arcanity to carve out its own place in the crowded online world."

Developer: Brickhouse Trading Company
Publisher: To Be Determined
Release Date: To Be Determined
Website: http://www.brickhousetrading.com/game.html

It's just begun development, but Arcanity is taking the standard fantasy world and wrapping it around a karmic system that should prove a breath of fresh air to players who are interested in roleplaying without the arbitrary boundaries of rules-based social interaction.

Characters will have an alignment status (similar to D&D) that will be altered by their actions in the game. The twist is that other players will be the controlling factor. You;ll be able to :report" a player as being evil, and your report will result in their alignment actually becomming more evil. To avoid players who might abuse this by reporting constantly, the less frequently one reports someone, the more powerful the report is. One of the results of this system will be an internal development of morality - if the majority of people think PKing is good, votes will quickly make the minority into "evil" characters. Evil characters could face penalties from imprisonment to death, by city guards or bountry hunter contracts. These original ideas may allow Arcanity to carve out its own place in the crowded online world.

Not much good on the CD's this month, just some sports games and a UO 15-day trial(Hey, anything like AOL's 500 free hours?). Ahh, but the Arcanity article makes it all worthwhile.

I forgot to mention that one of the old screen shots of the castle is included with a caption stating; "Rule 1 of online game development: Create a cool looking castle!"
