So is anyone here into anime? I'm just curious as it takes up just as much time as games in my life.

Anime sucks... the money out of my bank account that is. Don't believe me? You should check out my cel site (http://hibiki.megami.net/cels/). I don't want to even think about how much I've spent on those... let alone all the other assorted anime merchandise I've purchased over the last 8 years...

My personal favorites are 3x3 Eyes, El-Hazard (the first OAV), and Cowboy Bebop.

ive got way too many "favorite" anime series. if i had to make a list of my top 10 anime series of all time id probably have to revise it like 5 times (anyone see the movie high fidelity? the top 10 songs of all time list? (or was it top 20)? that would be me).

but heres a small list of some of my current favorite anime series (note not all of them have been released in the US. ive been able to see some of these series thru friends who have purchased the imports (japanese and cantonese dvd/vcds):

Berserk: (Dark Fantasy. i liked it better than lodoss war. thats not to say that i dont like lodoss. i do. btw: if youre not familiar with the Berserk manga and u decide to try berserk TV series then i highly recommend starting with ep 2 NOT 1! (ep 1 is really the last episode) ).

Vandread: (SciFi, Giant Robot, Action, Comedy. If u enjoyed nadesico youll feel right at home with this series).

GundamX: (SciFi, Giant Robot, Action. i think im the only person that likes this series. came out after gundam wing in japan, but did very poorly. i couldnt stand gundam wing tho just about everyone i know seems to like it. i didnt care much for the main characters: 5 brats equipped with the best mechs the solar system could offer. GundamX had a better premise and in my opinion better characters).

Trigun: (Action, comedy, sci-fi western. VASH! nuff said).

Love Hina: (romantic comedy. ive laughed my ass off so many times watching this series).

Initial D: (racing drama. Think Gran Turismo with a plot. ok that may sound pretty dumb, but its all in the presentation. a very popular series in japan. drift! nuff said).

Dual: (yeah yeah... its a rippoff of eva mixed with elements of tenchi muyo, but its a fun series).

Evangelion: (still a classic. tho End of Eva is pretty messed up).

Super Dimensional Fortress Macross: (also a classic. this will always be on the top 10 list. no matter what. note: thats "Everything Macross" minus "Macross 7". someone please explain to me why macross 7 had to be the horrible series that it was).

Nausicaa Valley of the Wind/Raputa Castle in the Sky/Mononoke Hime/Anything Miyazaki and studio Ghibli: (is that cheating to bunch all those together? oh well... miyazaki is a genius. but everyone already knew that).

I'm a fan, just don't think I have as much exp as all of you. Haven't seen any in a while, but I was really into it a few years ago.

You'll all probably hate me, but Ghost in the Shell really didn't do much for me. My favorite is the movie Baoh. That's the name I'll be using for my char in Arcanity. And, I can't think of the name right now, but there was the series about the vampires, in a sort of medievel/fantasy setting, I wish I could remember, but I have fond memories of that series as well. Maybe you'll know what I'm talking about.

I really have urge to watch some anime now.

Were you thinking of Vampire Hunter D?
Err Theres Vampire Princess Miyu or Master of Mosquiton too. Maybe one of those?

Ya I don't really care for the anime that some people are trying to label as 'innovative' and 'deep' (in meaning). Those would be Evangelion, Ghost in The Shell, and Lain. I didn't like those that much at all compared to other animes. I mean sometimes it gets overly ridiculous for these connections that people make in Evangelion. Lain is even worse. Is it me or did it seem like the animator was making the stuff up as he went?

Well whenever I do watch any short of anime I love it, but I don't know what good anime is. Please if someone can tell what good anime is and where to find it, also is someone can direct to any sort of translation programs or programs that teach japanese. I would really like to know what you guys are saying, without having you guys to post the english version. The only anime I watch is DBZ and Tenchi on cartoon network(if thats considered anime)

Ah I was waiting for someone to post on where they can find good anime! Come over to DalNet with me karoo. On DalNet people "serve" files that they have on their computers. Some rooms are dedicated to serving anime. Just go download your copy of mIRC and play around with it until you are familiar with it. Then type '/list anime' and ChanServ will give you a list of rooms that have anime in the name (those are the ones that serve anime exclusively). It takes quite awhile to get used to mIRC and DL'ing anime but once you do, you'll be flying. However disreguard all I have said if you don't have a connection faster than 56k, cause each anime episode is at least 50Megs. BTW catch me on DalNet as 'KintounHimura' and I'll help anyone who needs help.

Thanks Alot (Again) Kintoun,

I have a feeling I'm going to be asking you alot of questions in the future about everything. I might even set up a shrine and worship you. I have downloaded some sort of mIRC but I need to find it again. I played around with and got no where. I do have a cable modem and I would love to download every bit of anime I can get my hands on. I'm also installing a 81gb HDD in my new computer. <cackles> I'm sure I'll have the space for my needs too. I'll find the mIRC stuff again, but I'm sure I'll be back asking for help.

Whoa whoa there, heh heh. But hey, if your really going to try and get on DalNet then I might as well start you off on the right foot. http://excursion.cjb.net Go there and get Excursion, it's pretty much the best script you can get. Lots of people use Polaris which is easier, but Excursion is much much more powerful but complicated, and once you get used to it, is much easier and faster to use. A script just enhances mIRC by making the commands easier through menus, and pop-up windows, and colors.

Then just join any room that has anime in the name, i reccommend #animesector, #anime-empire, #animebaka, #animempeg. You can set up the auto-join for Excursion by making a server '*.dal.net' and then making these rooms the auto-join rooms. By default the script does some things automatically that some people find annoying, so like I said, it's gonna take some time to get used to.

Once you do get Excursion going, you can come into #Arcanity (anything that starts with # is a room), and barrage me with questions.

mmm, anime.

Favorite Anime: The Slayers.
Perfect blend of comedy and action, with just a wee bit of romance thrown in.

Also like: Tenchi Muyo(all series but the Tokyo one. I'd use the abbreviation, but, well, you know, lol)
Ranma 1/2
Evangelion
Dragonball (all series)
Fatal Fury
Gundam(most series)
Macross (most series)
Sailor Moon(YES, I'M WEIRD, didn't you know that already?)

Tons and tons of others. Too many to list(actually, to many to remember at once).

And my room is anime paradise. figures, posters, manga books, plush toys, etc, EVERYWHERE. =D
