I was looking around teh Message Board and have not scene on of these types of threads yet, the Idea spawned from teh G-rated Thread anyway here goes.

What I think EQ lacks is fun stuff to do other than hack and slash, and fetch quests, there are no Fun animations, or Fun spells, or Fun skills. I wnet indepth on a fishing thread once for EQ and all the response we got was it would be considered. Anyway

What are your guys suggestions for fun things to do in Arcanity, hoefully we can gain some attention this early in the dev phase.

1. On my list is fun animated-emotes, Dancing, Poking, Cheering, Highfiving, handshaking, Laying Down, Sitting in different positions. Kissing (Would have to involve some interesting code *Aevon wishes to kiss you do oyou accpet* Yes/no ha!) Hugging as well, other animations related to others.
2. Fun spells, such as fireworks, colored balls of lights, spells that create music, Spells that lift people a few feet in the air, (This would be cool coupled with the laying down animations).
3. I havent read to much on the Ability to Charm Animals but this is something that is lacking in a Fun way.

I have tons more but I want to see how well this thread is recieved.

Hey, EQ did have some fun stuff. Like drunken fistfights in The Arena, or having two enchanters/druids/bards charm stuff and have it fight, and on the test server they're trying out a game called Gems that is basically tetris that you can play during downtime.

Etc. etc. etc....

Man, is that still all that EQ's got to do? Bah.

It sounds boring...

I hope we don't have to sink to that level of entertainment to keep the game interesting.

hmm so what is a fun activity in a roleplay game that doesnt involve a fetch and carry quest.. hmmmmm .. mind goes blank.. oh yeah I would like to be able to have a life. I dont want to have to keep up with my friends to be able to play with them when I am on. (which will probably be alot anyhow) hehe. Whoa way off topic.. ok so in game I would like to be able string together simple character moves.. (heres a stretch) .. suppose you had commands like raise arm, arms out, squat, smile, frown, grumpy, laugh, hands on hips , sit, lay down, hop on rt foot, ..and on and on and on .....theoretically I could put my hands on my hips and smile .. with a matching emote of my choosing. Save that to a emote and have a smile that does not beam the same as everyone elses. Now. weither or not such a thing is possible I have no clue.. I dont claim to be a programmer in the least.

Do you accept a kiss from Aveon.. heheheh .. woah consentual relationships:)

All I can say in my defence is that cold medicine is a wonderful thing when ya really need it:)

Heh I don't agree with a game that is totally out of character and has nothing to do with the gameworld as an option to downtime. Thats kinda lame and adds to giving ppl excuses to talking OOC. "Aiight then dewds, I'm gonna go play some Gems, BRB". But I'm ALLLLLLL for adding stuff other than fighting to Arcanity, some of the veterans know that I won't shutup about that subject... I want to hear some others ideas before I interject my own into this thread tho.

Most of that stuff is not really fun unless you're doing it with your friends(and its fun to be with them anyway). Of course, I think the only really 'fun' things to do in a game are to make combat interesting, and to do social type stuff.

Also, I think its been mentioned before, but gambling would be nice. Perhaps people with higher perception, etc... could be better at gambling, and you could raise it as a skill like they did in fallout?

There should be a skill in cheating as well. Yet another way of making money. I don't think it has really been done before, either.

In D&D there is a skill called Gaming that's used for both.

I don't plan on playing a combat orentiated game. If I wanted that I would get DOOM or Diablo.

I want to ROLE-PLAY.

I want role-playing as well. I want a real physics engine too, but since that's not going to happen anytime soon, I'll settle for only Roleplaying for the time being. I think most people that post with any regularity, as well as a large part of those who don't, are mostly interested in the roleplaying aspect as well. If they don't, they're probably better off playing UT or Quake 3, or equivalent. And those who are not interested in roleplaying must die a horrible, horrible death. MWUHAHAHAHA

Hmm. Oh. Sorry. Lost myself for a bit, there. In any event, what I wanted to say is that you are not alone in your glorious quest for real role-playing. I too aspire that lofty goal, and with us, many others. Some are just more vocal than others.

And about the gambling skill, I know that D&D has a Gambling skill. I was refering more to CRPG's as opposed to P&P RPG's. I don't think there are any computer RPG's that have a gambling skill that actually adds something to the game.

Yes, I want to see more fun none combat things in Arcanity as well. Gambling and other period type games would be fun. I don't play chess myself, but still for people who do, would it not be fun to be able to challenge someone to a game and actually see your 2 charactors sitting over a board and pondering moves and playing a realtime game of chess if thats a area of interest. Or drinking games, theres a period drinking game I have watched called Tobelero and its realy fun for the players and the watchers, as you can pass drinks off to the crowd, with animations as the players and crowd gets drunker. There are many dice and card games that are conducsive to roleplaying that would be fun. Haveing skills in gambling and cheat skill for gambling would even add more to it.
Having more animated emotes would add fun as well ie dancing, being able to play a indstrument. How about being able to throw a ball and the people actually being able to dance together instead of it all being in the mind of the player.
The possibilities are only limited by the programmers and our imagination.

Actually the name of the skill was called Gaming, not gambling. It covered all games that you might encounter and had a chance to pick up. It was basicly a knack for games of all sorts, even gambling.

This is slightly off topic here, but I had to put it somewhere, so there. I don't know if it was possible in the likes of AC, EQ or UO, but it seems interesting to me to be able to write letters and notes in-game. This not sound very spectacular, but it could be very usefull in for example politics to communicate with people without actually having to meet them. It is also useful to leave unsigned letters with either a threat, or some very useful information, to influence to reader in some way. A king or other authority figure could sign a letter granting the bearer temporary authority to act in the interest of the person who wrote the letter. Undoubtedly, there are more ways to use this idea, and forging letters comes to mind as well. Another idea is making an advertisement board in a central location in the city, where players can place an advertisement, in exchange for money of course, for example asking for a skilled hydromancer to clean a guildhouse. And while I am on the subject, maybe kings or other rulers could use town criers to let their decrees and laws be known to the populace. Again, I don't know whether or not any of this has been implemented to any extend in other MMORPG's, and if they have, in what manner, but there undoubtedly are people on this board who do, so please enlighten me.

The closest thing to a letter I have ever seen in a mmrpg was in m59. you could send personal notes to people that were like letters, no animation or anything but you had an ingame mailbox.. that game and eq had bar bulletin boards, rarely used IC though. I never played AC past beta so I dont know what they came up with.. I played in another game that had something similar to scrolls, when you dropped them on the ground they would stay there for a certain amount of time.. that was the best for rping, aside from the decay limit..

Morte

Indeed, laying down an actual scroll is what I meant. As for item decay, although I do not know how exactly how that will work in Arcanity and is a topic for another thread that has yet to be started, it would be easy to circumvent that in some way. Usually, you will put the scroll somewhere where the person that is supposed to receive it will find it. This means that it will be a) in a place frequented by that character and b) a place only a that character, or a few characters at most, ever visit.

You have the honors of starting that thread. Make it count so we can get their attention and get it in Beta.

How about a card game like the ones from the FF games, with unique cards that possess magic or unique characteristics. This could be an enjoyable past-time and also a way to get special items from rare cards.

However, I don't see the point of having a skill for it. Unlike sword fighting, which is hard to realisically simulate in a game, skill in card playing should be increased with true experience and not a level.

This is just one specific idea, but I think gaming or gambling would be a good idea.

Ya when I read Morte's post it reminded me of an idea I wished EQ had. The ability to leave someone a msg when they are not online so that when they come back online they can read that message. Be it a IC impementation or OOC implementation I don't mind. But it was always annoying to try and communicate with people if they weren't online. And it's really hard to RP into a conversation... "My ICQ# is 33415570". So this is an idea that I would love to see in the game, go and make a whole new thread and I'll respond to it giving it my fullest backing.

I do like the idea of ingame mail.. you wake up and read your guild news, or a note from a friend. the more IC things we can keep in the game the less likely it is that personal business in game will have to be posted to an out of game bbs or webpage.
