Well I read the FAQ and a bit on the board.
Now I'll throw my ideas to the wolves ...
- fully extensive customizable look for the players avatar. Cloaks and real robes, not the spandex(TM) look of EQ or AC.
Different hairstyles, faces, facial hair, lean and slender or fat or muscle packed body styles, different heights, all
to make each character unique.
- no loot item should be more powerful than an item
made by the best PC crafter/mages. A single blacksmith should be able to make different types and shapes of armor.
E.g. If he fashiones a platemail he should be given a choice of different looks, not always the same one.
Master Blacksmithees,Tinkerers,Jewlers and Archmages (Highpriest?) working together should be able to create the most powerful items in the game, but should have to pay a high price for doing so ... experience or permanent hp-mana
max reduction in addition to rare components needed to create the item.
- real necromancy - I want to raise the corpses of the fallen to do my bidding, even a (small) Army of the dead.
But I should be prepared to pay the price. A Necromancer will suffer from graverot or other illnesse, he will be shunned or hunted by the populace. The master goal for a necromancer should be the transformation to a lich or even lichlord.
- Summoning demons. A evil magician should be able to summon demons, but it should require extensive preparations.
And there always should be the danger of a demon being to powerful for a caster or an incantation going wrong ...
- skill and stat restrictions on items.
If these restrictions are not met the item should be less
effective.
But a newbie should be able to wield the item though.
Why should he not wield the mighty dragonslayer his father
gave him, even if he can't hit the broad side of a barn with it. The items may have a percentage of theire power
in correspondece to the skill needed to fully use the item.
e.g a magiuc sword with a swordsmanship restriction of 100
should only have 10% of it's magical power when used by a newbie warrior with a swordsmanship of 10.
well these are the first few ideas, more will follow ...
after you ripped the first ones apart ;-)
