Names in Arcanity

[Kintoun]

I have a question for you all. When I go to create my character in Arcanity I want to know what name I should use for my character. The alias that I have ALWAYS used for games, account, and everything else is Kintoun. But I'm not sure if that would fit well in a Role Playing environment. Obviously tho, if noone thinks that Kintoun isn't 'rustic' enough then I will go right ahead and use that name. Otherwise, I was thinking about using the name Xelloss. That name seems to fit a little better for RP'ing than Kintoun.

Normally I would never think twice about using the name Kintoun, but someone awhile back said that I should change my name cause it "didn't sound like it would fit in". So I want your honest thoughts on this. Don't say something like, "Oh don't worry about what other people think". I need more reasoning here than that. I learned in Psychology that (can't remember actual figure) people base ~60% what they think of you on their first impression. Thx in advance!

Also this would be a great place to state what name you plan on using in Arcanity (ONLY if it's not going to be the same as your nick on the msg boards) so we can all keep in touch in-game and not just on the msg boards.

Well, Dogmeat could be used as an RP appropriate name, if you play it the right way. I usually use Kinelen and Vyse if I want a more fantasy name.

Anyway, back to Dogmeat. If I went with that name, I'd give it to a big, strong, and a little thick character. RP it as a nickname that the character was called as a kid. Maybe his real name would be Maurice or something :)

Anyway, as long as you don't pick a name like Iamleet or MasterPantz that completely destroys any hope I had of being immersed in the game, I don't mind.

It's a new world full of new names. Whose to saw what is rustic or not in Novus (well besides the game makers) Kintoun sounds fine to me, i was planing on using Rend.

I think that as long as a name is not obviously out of style with the game world, there isn't a problem. So I think that Kintoun is just fine. I'll probably be using Morte myself.

Several people, including myself, have speculated on ways to keep out unwanted names, and I think that it can be best achieved by using an automated search looking for keywords, and by implementing a report system similar to the alignment system.

I think your name is just fine. I probably wont get the name indigo and Im not sure who I will be, so dont be all nice to that other one:P Hehehe..

I wouldn't worry too much about your name, Kintoun. I think it fits the intangible criteria of fantasy world names just fine. If you still feel it won't work as is, maybe you could try spliting the name into two sections (like "Kin Toun" or "Kint Oun").

I highly doubt I'll be using "Saint Faucet" anytime during my stay in Novus. Maybe it's just me, but it doesn't exactly inspire thoughts of roleplaying when viewed/used. :) In the past, I've used such names as "Arawn" and "Masaki Yosho" in MMORPGs and "Pretz" and "Steele Innthief" in good-olde tabletop D&D.

Currently, I haven't a clue as to what name I'll take in Arcanity. I usually don't choose the name until I'm in the act of creating my character.

I will probably be sticking with mine. It means "of the blood of dragons" and is a perfect name describing my origional character I had in the table-top campaign I created him for.

This would be the perfect continuation of his saga.

Are you going to use Bel Dragos, or BelDragos. I think the first one sounds better, since we all call you Bel here neways =) Dragos could be your last name, or a double first name, kinda like Sue-Ellen or something (I'm not saying you should name yourself that, hahaha) Maybe even Bel-Dragos woul work

Close friends and family will call me Bel just like here.

Others will call me by my name and I will respect them by doing the same.

Basicly everyone will be calling me Bel although I will go by my "proper" name.

Kintoun is just fine. Remember Novus is the future earth and you should still hundreds of years later see names from all the many cultures that once existed. It is names such as SirDoodz and PhatMaster and such that I object to for the same reason as Dogmeat. It destroys the RPing environment. I will certainly be using Kymeri.

I agree, stay with Kintoun. It will make it easy to recognise you. I will probably go with Baoh. I like to use that name whenever possible. I wish I started using it when I started posting on the boards. Unfortunately I did not think I would become very active here. To keep things clear I'll stay with z_man here, but I'll definately make a change for Arcanity.
