Shadowbane is one of the most talked about MMORPG in Japan, next to SWG, FF11. They say many UO player will move to the game. But I'm sure it is Horizons that will take place of UO if it supports our language and servers are going to be placed in Japan. ><

Shadowbane? As in "The exhibitors that used a trebuchet to launch a shirt two full booth lengths at E3 and almost take off my unsuspecting roommate's head" Shadowbane?

My advice to the Shadowbane people: Next time, aim a little to the left and lower. :D

Shadowbane actually does have a lot of interesting ideas. But it's got a lot of problems too. First and foremost, they made a bad marketing decision and initially targeted discontented PvP d00ds fed up with other games' attempts to rein them in. This has had two bad results: 1) the game's development is shadowed by legions of (mostly) immature fanbois, and 2) many people who might otherwise be interested in the game have been turned off by said fanbois. Now the fond hope of many players is that all the immature players will be siphoned off by Shadowbane leaving everything else available to more reasonable players.

They have other problems too. Although the game is officially in its second phase of beta testing, they still seem to be significantly further behind where they need to be in order to be ready for release by the end of the year. They also have lost their old US distributor.

There are a lot of interesting elements in the game. Much of the shape of the world will be under player control. However, one big lesson one should learn is that the quality of the player base is an important component of the quality of an MMORPG. The big fear is that Shadowbane's biggest fans will be its downfall.

i like the idea that players will influence almost all that goes on in the game. i am not a huge fan of PvP (team PvP i like though) but i think this game will develop "teams" with guilds and such. i think many guilds will develop boundaries... plus they got a differant aspect at MMoRPGs in general... they got a much darker view...
