Got two fencing foils, more for show than actual use, but they work. Wishing I could fence, but I'll work on that.

you never told me you had foils, why haven't we tried to fence before?

one time i had like 180 bucks and i was gonna order a scimitar, but they were like 560 bucks or so, so i said screw it and went and played suikoden 2. i think that the government should issue everyone a sword of their choice for free for personal defense and abolish all gun warfare and just fight like they do in braveheart

Message from the government:

"Re: Sword issuing and other suggestions.

We thank you for your interest in our program. Currently we have many improvements in progress that we cannot reveal at this time. Your suggestion has been added to our list of review, but we cannot promise that it will be implemented. In the mean time, keep working for us. Our porches all need new performance upgrades."

Well, its been a while, but Iv done some fighting in the Society Fof Creative Anachronism. Was a long time ago, never got terribly good at it, but I could do it, had armor and such (the armor is real, only the swords arent, although they do have realistic weight).
BTW, might be a good idea for some developers to try this out, at least find the local chapter (they are everywhere) and observe. If you can show at a practice session, might even be able to get an armor loan long enough to try it a bit. You will find it is a lot harder than it looks (especially using your shild well).

Yeah, I've checked out some SCA stuff, it's nice. Noone real skilled, just some sparring among the local shire. I'd like to get involved, but not now, other things I gotta do. It would be interesting just to see how realistic the devs are planning on getting... Even us moderators don't know how in-depth they are going to be, so it'll come with time.

Just found this, lots of places to actually buy weapons, such as swords, also Roman stuff, and lots of other stuff for that sort of thing (say furs, leather and hides, armor supplies, etc. So if you dont have a sword, now you know where to go :)

Looks like a Roman legion invaded America whilst we had our backs turned.

We have the Ren Fest in Shokapee Mn every aug. and there is a booth there every summer by a place out of Tx called Angel Swords. They have some nice stuff although it is kinda expensive.

Another great group to buy swords from is Starfire Swords. All of there weapons are functional (though you lose your lifetime warranty if you sharpen them).

We have a few of them and they are well balanced and quite impressive in their simplicity.....

Starfire swords is rather big, I have a business card of theirs that I got while I was in France (Mont St. Michel, to be precise). Good quality stuff too. A friend of mine bought a sword there, and it looks nice.

You should model some of the weapons in the game after the ones the staff owns and have a contest to find them.

By the subject, I don't mean in-game blacksmithing (but it'd be cool if it involved more than hitting "combine." Anyway, I think a dev kit would be cool, and the designs (visuals) made by players could be submitted. It's sort of "open closed-source," but I think it'd work well.

Ive seen a bunch of SCA fights, and I think there great. If you want to get a good idea on how combat worked back then, talk to a stick jock (errr SCA fighter). I have a few WWI and WWII bayonets that are just about short swords. Got a lot of books on medieval weapons though. I do have hand made long bow. Thats lots of fun.

Actually, Arkim, that idea was thrown around a bit, concerning things like player-developed dungeons and stuff, I think it's in one of the older threads in Developer Interaction. Would be an interesting concept to work with.

I actually have a nice little collection of swords. I have three samuri swords, one Spanish broadsword and a french "napoleon" sword ( named that because it is shorter than nornal) I also have some stuff blacksmiths have made for me. Their really not that expensive if you find the right places or have them made. The made ones are acually better quality.

I have a Celtic short sword, a damascus dagger, and a Celtic Spear. I also have more daggers than I can keep track off :)
