In the FAQ it says that there are no static spawns and that monster settlements grow with age, so is it safe to assume that the starting cities grow too? This would give people an incentive to defend their town, and maybe when a city gets big enough it gets better stuff, more/stronger guards, etc. It would also be pretty cool if these cities could then have wars with eachother, and then ylu would have to worry about encountering war parties out in the woods from the enemy town
And because this is Earth in the future, we are on a map of Earth right? or will it be altered in some ways from the cataclysm or whatever its called?

Yes it will be altered dramaticly from what I have seen so far in the beta. Although it is a future earth the spell which created it will have altered everything.

while i don't like the idea of city building by players like in shadowbane. (heee this a RPG not a city building game) I do like the abilty for players to build particular buildings ( a priest could build a church, an armor maker a smith, etc.) every class can make a particular building type. So alot of player together (like a guild) could make a small sized town which provides varying services (healing at church, potions/scrolls at mage tower, weapons at smith etc.) but it will all depend on the roleplaying , not on some city leader who builds a city by using building blocks.

That would work if there were classes. Your character develops based off the skills you chose. It is skill based instead of class based.
It would also take a huge amount of time and resources to build structures. Look how much it takes to construct a simple house in our world. How much time and resources would you have to devote if you wanted one built.
After spending all that you could loose it during a raid. There would be other things for you to defend it against too. Would you be willing to give up the Dungeon Crawl to keep your house? Would you be willing to risk it to go on a Dungeon Crawl to pay for it and find it destroyed when you get back?
As you see in the example there is great responsibility associated with constructing structures.
There is a great chance to RP too.
When I get my Guild Hall I plan on sticking near it to RP. The sacrifice of not doing the Crawls to RP is worth it.

I understand there will be no classes...but the same thing could be done by using the skill system....if ye specialize enough (and i mean alot) in a certain type of skill (let's say religion) you could be able to build the type of building that goes along with it. If you make sure that it will demand some real dedication from the player (almost no skill point for other abilties, so ye have to be really dedicated to one certain aspect of yer character) this will also solve the problem that those structures will pop up everywhere and clutter the world.

Xylenix's Construction company starting up soon! All interested apply within! Seriously though - I think it would be best (if the chara has the skill) for characters to build their own houses, like a small place of residence, a safehouse in which to store the items you aren't currently using....
Also that would create the opportunity for people to build houses and sell them as another source of income...

The planned map is completely different than the map of Earth. I figured the map of Earth was, well... boring. It's justifiable by assuming the Cataclysm was powerful enough that it modified the land by creating huge earthquakes, massive volcanic erruptions, maybe even meteor showers!

Does it resemble Pangea or Gondwana?

hmmm.....maybe not...
you could juggle that axe of yours though
topless juggeling blackjack. Thats what we need. That way you don't feel bad losing all your money.
But seriously, we should incorperate some type of gambling. Whether it be as simple as dice/blackjack/poker etc. or even as small as the ability to wager over some other type of game (i think a Final Fantasy card type game was mentioned at one time.) Anything to add a little more depth is always good. Just a thought.

A Gaming skill could allow you to spot any cheating or to cheat at the risk of getting caught.
:D
Everyone is welcome to my casino, but the only wager possible is your life :D

Gaming is really a must. Really, how cool was FF when they added the card games and especially the Kocaboo races (sorry spelling). Even as much as I HATE Lineage, the slug races were kinda interesting. They could have been better but it was a fun touch.
Something like the breeding, raising, and training of Kocaboos would be awesome if you could then take them to races and people could bet on them. I guess this also works with an Arena idea. And something like the FF card game would be great. Even if you didn't do anything original to begin with, even a chess game would be nice. Especially in beta :)
